Volumetric Analysis – Volumetric analysis is the method of quantitative chemical analysis in which the amount of substance is determined by the volume it occupies. The types of volumetric analysis are given below:-

  1. Acidimetry and Alkalimetry

The process of determination of the contribution of acid by reacting the known volume of acid with a standard solution of alkali is called acidimetry.

The process of determination of the concentration of alkali by reacting a known volume of alkali with a standard solution of acid is called alkalimetry.

  1. Concentration of solution

The quantity of solute present in a given concentration of a solution is called the concentration of a solution. If the concentration of a solution is already known then such type of solution is called a known solution or primary standard solution or simply standard solution. Similarly, if the concentration of the solution is not known or to be known with standard solution then such type of solution is called an unknown solution or secondary standard solution.

If the solution consists of relatively less amount of solute then such type of solution is called dilute solution (conc.)

The types of volumetric analysis are mentioned above.

The different ways of expressing the concentration of a solution are.

Method Notations Definitions
