As we know that Nepal is blessed with a rich cultural heritage. Culture is 'the way of life for an entire society'. The traditions are followed as they were and new customs are created to keep pace with the changing times. Several types of dresses, ornaments, folk music, folk dances, Sculptures, etc are practiced here. Some of the cultural heritages are given below:
Culture in Nepal refers to the music, architecture, religion, and literature. The land is rich with unique cultural groups like Tharu,Yadav, Magar, Gurung, Limbu, Newars and others.The culture of Nepal is a unique combination of tradition. The traditions are followed as they were and new customs are created to keep pace with the changing times. The people speak different languages.
Our country is also rich in the traditional dresses. The traditional dresses of Nepalese people are different according to the difference in caste, race, and geographical location.Costumes of Nepal are most beautiful and meaningful. People of the mountain wear thick and long woolen clothes called Bakku and Docha. The people of the hilly region wearGunew, Cholo, Kachhar, Bhoto and cap. The Terai people wear Dhoti and long shirt called Kurta
Nepalese women wear various types of ornaments. The important ornaments worn by Nepalese women are dhungri, bulaki, kalli, fuli, tilahari, naugedi, shirbandi,Kampani mala, chandrahar, aunthi,nathuni, bichhiya,bichkini, mugamala, hasuli, cheptesunetc. Men also wear the ornaments like aunthi, Sikri and Bracelet. Few men also wear earring only in one ear.
The Traditional dances of Nepal differ according to the place and race. There are different dances practiced in different communities. Some of them are Kumari dance, Manjushree dance, Tamang selo, deuda, balan, sangini, maruni, kaura, dhannach, dhol nach, tungna, yalambar, damphu nach, Chandi nach, sabai, sakhiya, sorathi, chanchari,hadkeli nach and so on.
The music is played from Mountain to Hill and Hill to Madesh.There are hundreds of instruments developed in Nepal. A research found that about 200 original instruments developed in Nepal. 108 types are still in play across the nation. Panchai Baja is one the famous musical instruments in Nepal. Some of the important folk musical instruments are Pancha baja, sarangi, binnayo, madal, murchunga, tungna, dhol, jhyamta, yalambar, damphu, ektare, majira, flute, damaru, etc.
Nepal is a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic country. Almost all of these ethnic groups have their own languages. Nepali or Nepalese is the major language of Nepal. It is also the official language of Nepal. There are other languages too that are widely spoken in Nepal such as Newari, Bhojpuri, Awadhi and Maithali. There are also different languages spoken in Nepal. Some of them are Limbu, Magar, Tamang, Sherpa, Rai, Tharu, Newari etc.
The art of dealing with the place of dwelling is called architecture. Nepalese art is heavily inspired from Hinduism and Buddhism. The 2 millennium old Hindu and Buddhist heritage has survived various onslaughts They still influence the Nepalese art and craft tradition. Following are the various art and craft forms of Nepal.
The different types of Nepali utensils are used in our household such as Karuwa, aamkhors, surahi, khadkula, anti, gagri, Kanchko, thal, tapke, Kachaura etc.
Nepali products mean a lot to the foreigners. Many goods are produced in Nepal which are not found in other parts of the world. Some of the Nepali productions are Nepali paper, Dhaka cloth, Dhaka topi, Khukuri, Sukul. gundri, radi-pakhi, doko, namlo, gundruk etc.
The Nepalese sculptures are the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art which is created by the Newars. They are one of Nepal’s many ethnic groups of Nepal. Making objects of different shapes, sizes, and features of metal, stone, wood, clay, glasses, etc is called Sculpture. Some of the examples of Sculpture are:
Nepal has amazing rituals in practice like Kumari pratha, chaupadi pratha, Deukee pratha, bal bibaha, child marriage, polyandry marriage system, polygamy system. Nepal is one of the unique country in the world where different practices are still on existence. Nepalese people perform several rituals such as pasni, chhewar, bartabandha, ihin, janku, bhim, ghewa, mundan etc. Our Country Nepal is rich in rituals.
