Social problems

A social problem is a condition that at least some people in a community view as being undesirable. Social problems may be viewed as such by certain groups of people. Social Problems the official publication of The Society for the Study of Social Problems and one of the most widely respected and read professional journals in the social sciences.Teenagers who play loud music in a public park obviously do not view it as a problem, but some other people may consider it an undesirable social condition. Some nonsmokers view smoking as an undesirable social condition that should be banned or restricted in public buildings.

Here are some of the social problems listed below:

  1. Girl Trafficking
  2. Drug Addiction
  3. Gambling
  4. Prostitution

Girl Trafficking

Girls trafficking has been a problem in our society. Girls are persuaded and brought abroad by influencing the guardians from an economic point of view and pretending to establish a marital relationship. This problem is very serious among the economically week and disadvantaged societies. The guardians are so forced through various influences that they are obligated to sell their daughters and/or sisters. Therefore, in order to discourage such activities, the campaign against girls trafficking should be strengthened. For this, things like guardian’s supervision, formal and informal education, employment based education etc. should be promoted.

Drug Addiction

Many teenagers, youth, and adolescents are found the victim of addiction. Addiction is the habits and manners which have bad impacts on the health of family and society. Once they get involved in the addiction they cannot escape out from it. Drug addiction problem in Nepal has become very serious in Nepal. Particularly, the urban and sub-urban areas of Nepal are susceptible to sale and abuse of drugs. Therefore, the society, families and the life of adolescents of these areas of Nepal are highly affected and endangered due to the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and other pharmaceutical drugs. So, Parents should take care and notice the activities of their children.

Gambling

Gambling is also one of the Social problems of Nepal.There are several casinos in Kathmandu located in the premises of the city’s top hotels which offers 24 hours of non-stop fun and games like baccarat, blackjack, flush, poker, pontoon, roulette, and other card games and slot machines. All the games are played in chips and they can be bought with US dollars or Indian rupees. People will get free food and sometimes a disco if you put some money on the tables. Nepali's are officially forbidden from entering in Casino. Such type of gambling are of rich people. Once they get addicted to playing gambling, they cannot get out from there. They may loose all their properties.

Prostitution

Prostitution is the act of involvement in sexual activities for money or income. Some girls are willingly involved in prostitution where as some are forcibly involved. It is also called flesh trade and it is illegal. Sex workers are exposed to a variety of serious risks, including sexually transmitted diseases, a decrease in security, and a loss of human rights. The main reason for prostitution are unemployment, illiteracy, and poverty. Prostitution involves one gender's taking advantage of its superior social status and manipulating the other gender.
