Contribution of Nepal in International Peace Establishment

Nepal is peace loving country. Nepal became a member of the United Nations in 1955 and since then, it has been an active participant of most UN peace operations. The participation of the Nepalese Army in UN peace support operations spans a period of over a half century. As a member of United Nations Organization, Nepal has been helping the UNO in maintaining peace by sending its troops to UN Peace Keeping Force. The Nepalese Army and Nepal Police have been deployed in many conflicting areas of the world by the UNO as a peacekeeping force. Nepalese troops played a vital role to maintain peace in Kosovo, Lebanon, Somalia, Congo, Sierra Leone, East Timor and so on. Nepal has diplomatic relation with many countries of the world. Foreign policy plays an important role in making such relations.

Most of the peace-loving countries who want political, economic and social progress are the members of the united nations. Nepal has made a substantial contribution to the UN peacekeeping operations since 1958 AD. The performance of Nepalese army in peacekeeping operations has earned a good reputation in the world. Nepal is also the active member of SAARC. It also participates in various international tournaments. Such games and sports help to develop mutual cooperation and international understanding. The Countries of this organization do not want to involve themselves in the conflicts. They want to establish the good relationship with every country.Due to its long involvement in the UN missions, Nepalese security agencies, particularly the Nepal Army, have gained extensive experience and understanding of UN peacekeeping. Recently, the government has provided support for establishing an international-standard training center known as BPOTC to strengthen training.

Nepal has made its identity as a peace-loving. It doesn't attack other but maintains friendly relation and follows the principle of neutrality with the countries of the world. It wants to establish a good relationship with every country and promotes world peace.

Nepal's contribution in international peace establishment:

  • Nepal was elected as a temporary member of security convert of UN in 1968 A.D.
  • Nepal was selected as vice- chairperson in UN general convention in 1958 A.D.
  • Nepal signed the treaty of atomic armaments trial and transformation.
  • Nepal contributed while preparing a report against colour discriminates.
  • Nepal proved its commitment to world disarmament conference.
  • Nepal advocated the voices of the right to transit, sea transport as justifiable demands in UN meeting.
