1. Literal Comprehension:
Mr. James Duffy, a middle-aged bachelor, initially leads a lide devoid of adventures. But once he by coincidene meets Mrs. Emily Sinico, adventures begins. They meet during the concert, set up dates, and then he starts paying her periodic visits at home. Their relationship develops. He confides in her about his academic life . She appreciates the respite from her isolation, but one evening she makes the error of grabbing his hands passionately and pushing it against her cheeks. He never returns to her. But Mr. Duffy learns of the woman's passing in the newspaper four years later. She was drunk when she was struck by a train and knocked to ground.
2. Interpretation:
This narrative explains Love and Lonliness to us. It illustrates two unpleasant situations: a guy who doesnot accept the love and a woman who cries out in vain for it. Additionally, it discusses lonliness. People who are lonely have no way of connecting alongside one another. But its not until its almost too late that they understand the significance of intimacy and affection.
3. Critical Thinking:
The writer has presented a beautiful love story which is only one sided and because the main character refused such love, the writer laughs at him. But instead of the writer, I believe and agree James Duffy.
- How can someone have affairs with an unknown despite ofhaving a grown up child and a husband?
- How can such a moralist acknowledge his error?
- He couldn't possibly feel bad for Mrs. Sinico.
4. Assimilation:
I connected with Mrs. Sinico as I finished this narrative. If she truly desired her unethical love, I wouldn't be in favour of it. But I agree with her that she wants a friend. If you're left with no one to love, life is really difficult and lonely. One needs a companion in such a predicament. If not, one deteriorates and starts drinking.
