information Regarding Weather in Grade-7, Reference Note

We get information about the condition of weather from various means of communication like radio, television, newspaper, smartphone, newspaper etc. They provide us information about the cloud, humidity, rainfall, wind, snowfall, etc. We also get information about the natural calamities that may occur in near future like a tsunami, cyclones, etc. Metrologist forecast weather of a particular place at a particular time after studying the various factors of weather such as temperature, movement of clouds, types of clouds, direction of air, amount of rain etc. They use various types of equipment for the measurement of factors that affect the weather.

Equipment for Measuring the Factors Affecting Weather

Some of the equipment used by meteorologists for measuring the factors affecting weather are given below,

  • Barometer: It is the widely used weather instrument that is used for the measurement of atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric pressure of a particular place determines the weather of that place. When the atmospheric pressure increases, the weather becomes clear and when the atmospheric pressure decreases, the weather becomes windy and cloudy.
  • Maximum- minimum thermometer: It is the weather instrument that is used to measure the temperature of a day in a particular time. It records the highest and lowest temperatures reached as well as showing the current temperature.
  • Hygrometer: A hygrometer is a weather instrument that is used to measure the humidity in the air. The amount of water vapour present in the air is called humidity. When the temperature of the air decreases, the humidity or water vapour in air increases and when the temperature of the air increases, then the humidity or water vapour in air increases. The relative amount of vapour in the air is called relative humidity. When the relative humidity increases, then there is high chance of having rainfall and when the relative humidity decreases, there is less chance of having rainfall.
  • Anemometer: Anemometer is a device used to measure the speed and direction of airflow. As we know that, the speed and direction of air keep on changing. In the morning , the air flows in slow speed whereas in the afternoon the air flows at very high speed. In the mountainous region, strong wind flows in the evening.
  • Rain gauze: Rain gauze is the weather instrument that is used to measure the amount of rainfall in a particular place. It is measured in millimetre. For example, the amount of rainfall in Pokhara is 30 mm means that if all rain remains in the same place where it falls, it would be 30 mm high from the ground.

Weather Forecasting

Weather forecasting is the prediction of weather of near future or hour or tomorrow or the next week. Meteorologists help in forecasting the weather. Meteorologists are the people or scientist who predict the weather by studying various factors that affect the weather. Weather forecasting is done by using various types of weather equipment. They give the pattern of weather condition of the coming time. By knowing the forthcoming weather conditions, people can be aware and take necessary precaution. Meteorologist forecast the weather by collecting quantitative data about the current atmospheric state. Here, scientific understanding of the atmospheric process is used that helps to forecast how the atmosphere will change in the near future.

Simple Ways of Weather Forecasting

Some of the simple ways of weather forecasting are described below,

  • During the rainy season, when the day starts with very hot shiny morning then it might rain in the afternoon.
  • If the day is partially cloudy from the morning then it might not rain in the day.
  • If the sky is suddenly covered by dark clouds then there is a high chance of rainfall.
  • The chance of rainfall increases with the sudden hot sunshine.
  • Talking about Nepal, when the clouds move from east to west at the end of the rainy season, raining stops after a few days.

There are also various meteorological laboratories in Nepal for the study of weather. They give information about the weather through various means of communication. Mostly, weather forecasting is done by observing the situation and the speed of the cloud in the sky. It is also done on the basis of the balloon and weather charts.

Importance of Weather Forecasting

  • Weather forecasting related to temperature and rainfall are used in agricultural sector.
  • If the weather is bad, then it helps people to be aware and take necessary precautions.
  • By knowing the weather, we can plan and perform outdoor activities.
