Obedience to Social Rules and Helping The Helpless

Obedience to Social Rules

Before three decades, every person in the community could not be a citizen. Those people who were serving in government are considered to be citizens of the country. They were the elite group of people working for the state. Now, the criteria of having citizenship have changed in our country. People having the age group of 16 and above can have citizenship and enjoy every right of the state.

Nowadays, citizens are given citizenship cards (in Nepali- Nagarikta) and those who are born in our country and yet to be a citizen are identified with their birth certificates. A birth certificate is one of the important documents to issue citizenship in Nepal.

An ideal citizen is essential for the prosperity of a society and the nation. An ideal citizen is a person who is qualified, hard-working, selfless, patriot, helpful and is a social worker. A healthy body, mind, and soul are the best qualities of any citizen. A community can be strong if the people are healthier and well-maintained communities can be a boon for national development. So, it's the citizens who are responsible for making our nation a developed and better place.

Society has different groups of people. For example, In our society, there are many people who belong to different castes, creeds and have various religious perspectives. There is significance to each member of our society. Every occupation has an important role to make the community a better place to live. There are also many places like Temple, roads, water-taps, trees, parks, and historical places that need to be protected and preserved time and often. Only the citizens who are fully conscious of their roles and responsibilities can be role models for social development and preserve unity's identities.

Besides, some of the social places are bigger in size than a community. They need special attention to flourish among different nations. For example, there are National Parks, Wildlife Reserves, and historical places like Lumbini, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Pashupati temple. To maintain these places, lots of collective effort has to be done. There should be the involvement of groups of communities and personnel from a local and national government. These places should be kept neat and clean and remain peaceful throughout all seasons so that many more national and international visitors can visit them easily. The obvious benefit will ultimately get by citizens who care. Internal and international tourism will get boosted and the income source of everyone will be uplifted. So, we should put collective effort to well maintain such tourist areas on the daily basis.

Every member of society is bound by a certain set of rules of their society. Such rules are often known as social rules. These rules may differ from one society to another. For example, In Brahmin society, 'Bartabandha', the holy ceremony and praying silently every morning can be the rule, but in Tharu society, it may not be relevant. Similarly, the ceremony called ' Bela-Bibaha' which is so famous in Newar society cannot be relevant in Gurung society. People have different sets of rules and regulations. Yet, they lived together, respecting each one of cultures. We all know one slogan,"Unite we rise and divide we fall". So, It's all our responsibility to give equal space to everyone's feelings and celebrations.

Rules can be unique and it can be varied from place and time. It's not always compulsory that each and every rule of every society are for the betterment. Some of them like superstitions and blind faiths can be so dangerous and be the reason for pushing our society into destruction. For example, the loathsome practice in some places of our country to torture females, alleged to be witches is very bad. These sorts of rules should be strictly banned as they have been always responsible for making our family and society complicated. We must unite and fight against them. Abolishment of such bad rules at this time could be "Prevention is better than cure" as the coming generation would get to be more civilized and develop our nation.

Social norms and values of the society are also the rules and regulations. Many good traditions like respecting parents and teachers as gods, loving sister and brothers as our own children, keeping a good relationship with friends and relatives should be given more priority every time. In same way telling the truth, respecting the elders and loving the brothers, not stealing and not fighting are some good sets of religious codes of our society. We should be obedient to such codes because it helps our society to be more developed, stronger and more disciplined.

Let's be more precise in knowing the rules of society. Our school is the essential body of our society. With the knowledge we gained in school, any society can be developed and prosperous. The school is the holiest place in each society. It has its own set of rules which anyone should practice in and outside of school.

As soon as we entered the school compound, we must think of the school discipline. Classrooms and school compound should be neat and clean. We should always dispose of dust like eraser dust, torn pieces of papers and wrappers in dustbin properly. Scratching in desk and bench is the sign of bad student so we should always try to clean our place ourselves. The water taps should be cracked well to stop the flow of water. We should not pluck the flowers, buds, and petals. We should do our homework sincerely and tell truths to our teacher in every case.

Running here and there unnecessarily, jumping, wrestling, shouting and singing is the not allowed in classrooms. The classroom is like the temple for all of us. So, we should better care about it and maintain peace inside. Every student should be participative and have to take part in extra activities like chess, Debate, Badminton, Football, Long Jump, Racing, Dancing, swimming and other sports. These types of activities will increase the creativity of students and make them active in every accepts. So, those who follows the rules of school obediently always succeed and remain happy in his/her life.

Similarly, loving junior and respecting the senior is a most important rule of school. Making disputes among friends and fighting with them is the biggest crime of student. We should never think of creating conflicts. There is one beautiful saying in English, "What you give to others, you will get the same" . So, We should love as much as we can do to others. Teachers are greater than God who lightens up the thinking capacity of our mind. With knowledge gained from school, we could live happily each and every situation. So, respecting teachers and respecting knowledge is another important social rules for all of us.

Social rules are a boon for social development. A social development like the clean environment, well infrastructures, better roads, peaceful, clean and green society will not be possible without a good attitude of people living in that society. In today's scenario, we see some society has developed so fast and others still have many lacking in them. The secret of having success and gaining prosperity lie on one secret, i.e. "How effectively a society has been following its good social rules?".

Helping The Helpless

Our beautiful green planet is full of lots of people from different backgrounds along with capabilities. Those who are healthy , able and independent do not need any knids of the special care and help from others. However, people like children, sick people, senior citizens and differently able people need various types of help and assistance for thier daily activities and livelihood. Those people who arre physically un fit and metally disturb need special care and attention. It is the responsibility of every memeber of the society to assist them who are helpless, suffering , needy and sorrow-striken.

We should not take inactive citizens as the burden of our society. There are many people in our society who are have helpless and need special type of care. so me of physically dissabilities are speech impaired, hearing impaired or mentally retarted. some can be disabled due to their ignornace and illiteracy.

Some people are disable by birth and some have disabilities due to some accident and negligence. Whatever be the reason for their disabilities, they are the part of our society. Some of them can be our own brother and sister. Some can be our parents and senior citizens. They all formed our family and society and are the integral part of our living. So, It's our responsibility to take care and boost them in their living. Physically inactive or dependent people have their hopes and dreams, we should respect them and put forward our concern. Helping them to grow along with their dreams always boost their confidence and make them more stronger. We should take every opportunities of them to flourish. With Proper respect and encouragement from the society, they can achieve greater success. We should treat them well.

There is inspirational tale about a Nepali soldier - Kapil, who was finally coming home after having fought in Lebanon. He was sent for united mission as peace keeping force to maintain peace and security for the people living there. It was tough duty of a army to fight with local armed force and assure the safety for rest. Nepali have their great history of victory and valour in each and every armed activities.

He called his parents just before three days for returning form Lebanon. "Mom and Dad, I'm coming home this week only but I've favour to ask. I've a friend I'd like to bring home with me."

"Sure, We would love to have see him, som" they replied.

" When you are coming home, your mom is planning some special to welcome you back home"

"Oh, really. I am so glad that my mom is doing so much for me. Papa, there is something i have to tell about my friends", the son continued, "I am bringing him to stay with us for rest of his life. He has been badly hit in the ambush. He is handicaped now. I do not think this would create any difficulties to bring him in our home and provide him decent living".

"Son", said the father " You are so generous for others. I like and respect your feeling about him. But, parctically it would not be that easy and suitable to take him for whole life. We have our family and life styles. We can take him to some shelter home and help him to live in similar circle. But, we cannot accept him as our family member."

"father, He is alone and he has no where to go. I am his only frined and relative. I ahve given my words to him also. You should understand the situation and let me to bring him in our family. I would personally take care of him. I won't let him mto be the burden of any other member in our family", son's replied in soft tone.

"No, we could not accept some one other in our family. And after knowing he is handicapped, i would not give any permission to bring in my family. It will be burden for all of us", father spoke loudly in phone.

At that time, the son hung up the phone. Parents could not heard anything from him. A few days later, they received a call from Lebanon police and got the bad news. Kapil has fallen from a building and police claimed it was suicide.

The grief-striken parents flew to Lebanon with the help of Nepali Embassy and were taken to city hospital to identify the body of their son. They recognized him,but to their horror, they alsso discovered something they didn't know, their son had only one leg and one arm.

The parents in the story are like many of us. Many often we entertain only with those people who are good-looking, fun-loving, healthy and ignore who are unfit and metally reterded. We also feel discomfort and inconvenience to live with them. But, if someone is so near and dear to us, we are ready to accept any conditions of them. Our parents will always praise and support their own children but they find very difficult to accept any other disability. like in the story, Parents are unware of the condition of their own children and so ignorant that his own children has lost his leg and arm. So, someone who loves us with an unclonditional love welcomes us into the forever family, regardless of how messed up we are. Someone who truly loves us welcomes us whether we are lame, blind, deaf, dumb or whatever else. This capacity to love and give love to all kind of people is the most precious possession any one could hold.

Our religions and culture also show the high importance of service and help to those who are needy, poor, suffering and helpless. Those help and service that we can offer to such people are holier than anything. According to our religion, it is believed that if we do good with differently able people then goodness will definitely comes to us and our family. Therefore, we should give up personal selfishness and greed and involve ourselves in the holy work of serving people who are needy, helpless, suffering and differently able.

In our country, we can see many people around us who are disabled, helpless, sick, parentless and victims of earthquake. Many elderly people are isolated by their family members and living in humiliation. They should be properly taken care by their own family members or by those NGO's and INGO's working in this field. These people have special talent in them. They can be very useful for social development and tranquility. they should be cheered up and everyone should be with them. The sigh of good society is reflected by the caring, sharing and cheering of the helpless people in need.

Let's take one live example, The portion of the report published by Nepali Times on May-June, 2011 illustrate that how deaf people are given the opportunities to boost up their living.

"Work opportunity for deaf Nepali is scarce and limited. Since 1997, Shyam Kakshapati's Bakery Café has employed dozens of deaf people in Kathmandu. But Nepal shouldn't stop there.nb

"The deaf are succeeding through their studies in high school and college. But the only avenue they see in front of them is a waiter, a data entry person, or as a sign language instructor. So while these opportunities give them the means to eat and pay the bills, it's limited and has become a sort of de-motivation," says Giri."

Not only deaf people, we should help every people who are suffering physically, mentally and socially if we wish to make our country strees-free, violence-free and maintain peace everywhere.
