Importance of Social Values and Norms

Society has various types of people with various backgrounds. These people are associated with different religions, manners, literature, festivals, customs, traditions, etc. The condensed form of all these elements is known as 'culture'. It takes a long time to form the society and its culture. The various elements of the culture that are bound to provide the welfare of humankind and surroundings are called social norms and values.

Society is the common ground for everyone. Every citizen has equal rights and responsibilities. There should not be any excuses while fulfilling those rights and responsibilities. The development of society is in the hand of active citizens. Many developed societies can make the nation developed and prosperous. To create an environment of social co-operation by respecting each other is social courtesy. Likewise, to show respect to elders, parents and to love helpless, strangers and juniors is the virtue of being polite in our society.

An ideal citizen is the greatest asset of society as he/she could perform well in social development. She/he is honest and always believes in hard work. Such people who always seek to have love and respect for the society boost the social co-operation and always stand for social upliftment. Suggestions and the friendly nature of such citizens make every social problem simple to handle. An ideal citizen makes an ideal society.

Parents have great responsibility for making their family happy. The family is the first school of any child. So, it's the responsibility of every family to make them learn good behavior. They should be taught to respect elders and love their younger ones in the family. Various types of good conduct such as personal hygiene and a basic level of education should be given to every child in their early ages. It is very difficult for a child to grow physically, socially, and mentally without parent support. So, we always say, "Parents are real gods for us".

Everyone's parents are kind and supportive. They suggest in our problems and help us to get rid of any illness. It is always better to listen to parents' words rather than searching for others. Nobody knows us better than our own parents. Like, Sarwan Kumar took his blind parents on his shoulders to holy places and lord Ganesh preferred to stay with his parents rather than going to Sumeru Mountain. We also have our responsibility to love and help them in simple work like kitchen chores, house cleaning, and gardening.

Moreover, we should always obey our parents and help them by taking care of our grandparents. It is bad to blame them for not being able to fulfill our every expectation. There might be various problems in our family. We should never demand expensive things rather we have to smile and be happy when our family is in trouble. Showing anger and disobeying parents' instructions is the most foolish act of any child. It should be strictly avoided at home as well as in school. We should always keep in mind that love is the greatest virtue of life. We should love everyone and respect every relationship in our life.

Similarly, Father's Day and Mother's day have their own significance in our life. We should always be grateful for whatever we are getting in our family and school. The dissatisfied mind would often lead to confusion and make us ill. The more we stay satisfied, the happier our life would be. So, it is always better to stay blessed with whatever we get from our parents and teachers.

There are many occasions in our society for us to show a special kind of respect to our elders. For example, in Guru Purnima, it would be the most significant day to show heartfelt gratitude to our masters who sacrificed their lives to make our life. They have taught many students like us and made them able to stand in every trouble. Behind every successful student, there is the greatest support from his/her teacher. So, it's our duty and responsibility to love and respect our teachers. It is also a good idea to celebrate this Guru Purnima as the festival with sweets, foods, fun, and games.

We should always be grateful to our teachers. They begin with teaching us the alphabet and then slowly and gradually teach us everything like culture, discipline, manner, the idea of big or small things. Everything that we get from our teachers is so useful in our daily lives. They never get tired of teaching us and being our mentor in every situation. There are many stories of the students that are successful only with the mentorship of their teacher. for example, Lord Ram gained all knowledge from Dhornacharya and Gopal Krishna Gokhale was a mentor of Mahatma Gandhi.

Teachers have their own families. They do have their own problems in their life but they never get tired to impart the knowledge to us. They always wish for a better future for their students. They make us obedient and make us follow the social norms and values. They make us better at understanding society and clear the obstacles that we might have encountered while we are growing in different topographical regions. The school is the temple for all of us but without teachers, schools are bare walls and fences all around. Teachers have a greater significance in everyone's life. We should obey them and follow the path that they show to us.

There are also people who are differently able in our society. Some of them are blind, deaf, sick, and unfit. They need a special type of care. Every citizen should be responsible for making the proper environment boost their knowledge power. Nobody knows how they could contribute to our society.

For example, Stephen Hawking is regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists in history. His work on the origins and structure of the universe, from the Big Bang to black holes, has revolutionized the field. His physical deficiency has not seemed to affect his popularity and his career so far. So, with the support of family, friends, and society, any citizen with any sort of difficulty can stretch their knowledge beyond the horizon. There are so many people who are left on the street in our society. They are helpless and somehow affected by natural disasters and manmade violence. They are innocent being just like us. They should not be ignored and left over. They should be given proper care in their basic needs i.e. food, shelter, clothing, and sanitation.

Similarly, we should be friendly to a stranger and help them with their every query. Many foreigners come into our countries in order to visit our natural parks and wildlife sanctuary, national heritages, monuments, and the various base camp of tall mountains. It is always nice to be polite and help them to get to their destination. It's so rude to distract them with vulgar words and harsh them. There are many more advantages to welcoming them into our home and society. Our economy gets boosted up. We can run hotels and restaurants in various tourist places. Our homemade products will get the market and exposure to international personnel. Many base camp of tall mountains like Sagarmatha has been maintained along with foreign aid.

Social norms and values are an essential part of developing own personality. Following them properly will frame us to be useful people in our society whereas ignoring them will definitely lead us to spoil our precious life. Today, many youths are not following social norms and values and are on drugs and various addictions. Such people are ruining their life and, at the same time, they are being a burden for our family and society. So, if we want to be loved by everyone and have a successful life, social norms and values should be always considered.
