The school of nursing was first established in Kathmandu in 1956 under the directive of the health service, ministry of health. The first batch of this school had enrolled only 15 students. The expected proficiency of the produced manpower was illness oriented. Principally this was a Hospital oriented curriculum that was in effect between 1956 to 1986. This curriculum aimed at preparing nurses to be efficient in fulfilling the health needs of the people of Nepal. With the introduction of the new educational system in 1972, nursing education was brought under the Institute of medicine, Tribhuvan University. After that, a major revised curriculum that was based on primary health care was introduced in 1987 which was again updated in 2006. The aim of this programme was to prepare competent and self-reliant nurses who would be able to care for the individual, family and community.

The goal of the Nepalgunj Nursing Campus is to prepare and produce the registered nurse to be a professional health care practitioner who provides compassionate care, which is based on scientific evidence and who serves as the link between the patient (individual, family, community, or population) and the healthcare environment across the lifespan.
OBJECTIVES
General objectives
To provide standard nursing education to the eligible candidates (both females and males) of Nepal, especially from Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces to meet the primary health care and holistic needs of people.
Specific objectives Focus on those we serve, especially our students. Advance innovation and excellence in teaching to support student success. Promote excellence in research and creative endeavours. Produce nursing Human Resources at par with international standards. Develop self-reliant Nurses in the field of modern Nursing. Securing the financial future through efficient management, channeling external funds and building a strong endowment.
