ABOUT CAMPUS
Following the official announcement on July 14, 1959 A.D. (30th Ashadh 2016 B.S.) that M.A./M.Sc. classes in Economics, English, History, Mathematics, and Nepali would begin, the Central Department of Mathematics was established at the University College in Tripureswor on September 20, 1959 A.D. (4th Aswin 2016 B.S.) with only six students and an equal number of faculty members.

MPhil Level
The MPhil program, of 3 semesters’ duration, is conducted in the department as an additional degree. The first two semesters consist of various pure and applied courses, including a research technique and a seminar course. The total credits the students should earn is 16 in each semester. The third semester is for the thesis writing whose approval is publication based.

The main objectives of the department are:
- To produce high level man power with M.A./M.Sc., MPhil and PhD degrees.
- To conduct post-doctoral research.
- To promote basic as well as applied research in Mathematics.
- To improve and upgrade the mathematics curricula as required by national needs and international standards.
Most of the graduates of this department are currently working at different universities, campuses, higher secondary schools, government offices and other institutions of the nation. Some of them are working in the developed countries as well. Now the department runs M.A./M.Sc., MPhil and PhD programs in Mathematics.
