Central Department of Geology (CDG) is located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. It has one building with 23 spacious and equipped rooms. CDG has been known for producer of sound geoscientists with outstanding academic results. CDG is offering international standard academic syllabus. CDG offers not only theoretical and laboratory based teaching but also extensive fieldwork techniques, in order to build students capacity to work in various fields, such as in tunnels, roads, bridges, dams, etc. Courses offered by CDG are designed to maximize employment prospects through acquisition of subject knowledge and practical skills.
Department of Geology was established in 1968 in Tri-Chandra College conducting classes of B. Sc. in Geology under Tribhuvan University. M. Sc. in Geology was started from 1976. Central Department of Geology was established in 1986 at Kirtipur Central Campus. Then the number of students enrolled was limited. Till now, CDG has produced about 500 (486 between 1989 and 2011) students. The data between 1989 and 2011 exhibits fluctuating trends of the number of students registered in CDG. Of this figure, about 40 percent have been working in Department of Mines and Geology, and the rest in the other field areas.
Geology
It includes studying natural events including earthquakes, volcanic activity, and erosion in addition to analyzing minerals, rocks, fossils, and geological formations.
Engineering Geology
Engineering Geology is the application of geological science to engineering practice. It involves the study of the geological factors that affect the location, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of engineering works.
Doctoral program
This program gives students advanced analytical abilities, thorough theoretical knowledge, and practical expertise. It is designed for academics who want to contribute original research to the subject.
