Management is the process of getting things done through others with the help of some basic activities like planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling in order to achieve organizational goals effectively and efficiently.
Every organization is established for a specific objective. The main objective of management is to maximize productivity with optimum use of human effort.
Organizational goals are attained with the joint effort of people. management can provide effectiveness to human efforts only when team or group activities are managed properly. The emphasis on teamwork is very important. As well as it involves a working environment where team members interact with each other. Therefore, the basic elements in teamwork are motivation and hard work.
Efficiency is the managerial ability to minimize or optimize the use of organizational resources in attaining the objectives. Organizations are efficient when managers minimize the number of input resources and the time to produce a given output. Effectiveness is defined as to produce a given output. But effectiveness is defined as ‘doing the right thing’. The ability of the management is to achieve the objectives. the manages should work to make intensive use of a variety of individual-level and organizational-level resources to accomplish the expected outcomes.
Organizational generally have systems and rules for structures, leadership styles, planning functions, and other management practices. However, the roles and functions of management can be performed in a better way if situational factors are considered. The contingency approach to management suggests that there will never be a genetic solution to any particular problem.
There are several internal and external forces influencing and organization. The changes taking place in the socio-cultural, legal, political, technological, and economic environment affect the organization in various ways. Consumerism, environmentalism, and human rights movements have been awakening the consumers for their rights. Hence, these forces surround today’s managers.
