The Bachelor of Education program was established in order to provide competent instructors for high schools. Due to the challenges of managing Durbar High School, state laws requiring students to attend school, the growth of education, and the need for school instructors, Tribhuvan University (TU) began offering a three-year Bachelor of Education program in Nepal in 1996. Later, in 2072 BS, this was modified to a 4-year program.

The goal of a Bachelor of Education, or BEd, program at the undergraduate level is to develop competent secondary school teachers. Depending on the university, the program lasts for three to four years.
