Tribhuvan University (TU)
Ghantaghar, Kathmandu
01-4225743
The oldest academic institution in Nepal in terms of higher education is Tri-Chandra Multiple Campus, which is located in the center of Kathmandu. It was founded in 1918 A.D. (1975 B.S. ), but is more commonly referred to as "Tri-Chandra College" in society.
The foundation for higher education in the nation was laid with the founding of Tri-Chandra College. Tri-Chandra laid the groundwork, and colleges were built both inside and outside the Kathmandu Valley. With these advancements, citizens in Nepal gained access to higher education, which also signaled the start of the country's expansion of higher education.
The current name is a combination of two words: Tribhuvan, in honor of the late King Tribhuvan and Chandra in honor of the late Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher. Initially known as Tribhuvan Chandra Intermediate College, the institution later adopted its current name. Prior to democracy, the campus was reserved for a select group of elites from the Rana Regime; but, after democracy arrived in the nation in 2007 B.S., the campus opened to the general people as well. Since then, the Campus has produced enough skilled labor to adequately benefit the country.
