The Theravada Buddhist Academy (TBA) was established under the auspicious leadership of the most Venerable Dr. Bhikshu Jñanapurnika. It is an independent entity incorporated under the umbrella of the Vishwa Shanti Vihar. Theravada Buddhist Academy is the only institution, which supports systematic promotion and preservation of Theravada Buddhism, its culture and heritage through education, research and various other activities like workshops, conferences, meditation courses etc. it also works towards creating mutual understanding and cooperation between Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions of Buddhism. TBA offer two academic degrees in affiliation with Lumbini Buddhist University. They are a) M. A. in Theravada Buddhism and b) M. A. in Pāli Buddhist Studies. The course duration is two years in four semester. TBA is recently registered under Company Act 2063 as profits not distributing company in Sept. 15, 2021 (30th Bhadra 2078).
Mission
The mission of the Theravada Buddhist Academy is to promote Theravada Buddhism and Pāli Buddhist Studies in Nepal through education and research.
Students who want to demonstrate their knowledge of Theravada Buddhist studies, history, and practice are the target audience for the Master of Arts in Theravada Buddhism. In particular, practitioners of Theravada Buddhism who want to improve their involvement with the tradition and their communities by obtaining a structured graduate-level education in Theravada Buddhist studies are the target audience.
The course covers the history of Buddhism starting at the time of the Buddha. This essay, which is broken up into five sections, aims to teach students about the following topics: the history of Buddhism; its origins and development; its spread throughout Asia; its centers of learning; and its resurgence in India.
Qualifications
Applicants for admission to LBU's Master's degree program may be from any discipline as long as they have completed their bachelor's degree program or its equivalent from an accredited university. Candidates who meet the requirements can apply to LBU by completing an application that is available online, at the Central Campus in Lumbini, or at any linked campus. The program will admit students on an annual basis. The candidate must pass a written entrance exam and then an interview in order to be considered for the program.
The study of Buddhism can be approached with the aim and objective of providing a philosophical alternative in the search for the meaning of life and opting for a more humane mode of living. However, in a University academic context, this could be done from a non-dogmatic and critical standpoint that promotes tolerance of other points of view and dialogue with other alternative philosophies of life inculcating a value orientation in the learner that could eventually contribute to peaceful and harmonious living.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree or its equivalent from any accredited university qualifies students from any discipline to apply for admission to a master's program. Candidates who meet the requirements can apply to LBU by completing an application that is available online, at the Central Campus in Lumbini, or at any linked campus. The program will only admit students on an annual basis. The candidate must show up for an interview and a written admission exam in order to be considered for the program. A maximum of 40 students per class are allowed to apply each year for the Master of Buddhism program.
