The Institute of Engineering Thapathali Campus is a technological haven. It is located halfway between the capital and has been offering technical education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In retrospect, Thapathali Campus was the first institution in Nepal to offer technological training and engineering degrees, having opened its doors in 1930. It is a component campus of Tribhuvan University's Institute of Engineering, which over time increased its programs to the bachelor's and master's levels.

Thapathali Campus, formerly known as Technical Training Institute (TTI), was renamed and became part of Tribhuvan University (T.U.) as the Institute of Engineering in 1973 AD.
