The establishment of the Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) was the result of cooperation between Dhulikhel Hospital and Kathmandu University. Since its founding in 1994, Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) has been a national leader and innovator in the fields of medicine and related health sciences. Through its constituent and linked institutions, it has expanded its academic offerings to nearly every province in the nation in the nearly thirty years since its founding.

The school's physical facilities and infrastructure are split between two locations: the university hospital is located three kilometers away in Dhulikhel, and the basic science building, complete with all the amenities needed, is perched on a hilltop near Chaukot, Panauti.

August 2001 saw the beginning of KUSMS's own component MBBS program.

Kathmandu University School Of Medical Sciences(KUSMS) provides scholarship in different levels through Medical Education Commission (MEC) , Government Of Nepal. The basic science department is divided into several departments, each having the necessary amount of labs, lecture halls (including PBL classrooms), media technology audiovisual capabilities, and libraries.
