Master of Educational Sciences in Nepal

NOU's Master's Degree is aimed to provide graduates with specific knowledge in their respective subjects as well as the ability to display unique thinking. The training prepares them to assess and evaluate with critical insight in their fields of specialization. They can also develop valid arguments and approaches for problem-solving. They can successfully and logically explain their conclusions to both specialized and general audiences. The course also prepares students to function in uncertain situations and behave with minimal supervision or direction. The training aims to instill a thorough understanding of the chosen discipline.

Admission Criteria

Applicants must submit applications through the student panel on the official website www.nou.edu.np. Applicants must have basic computer skills.
The online application requires the submission of the following documents:

  • Transcripts and degree certificates for SEE/SLC, +2, and Bachelor's level
  • All applicants must sit for the University's entrance exams.

Objectives of Master of Educational Sciences

Academic requirements

A bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university or institution accredited by Nepal Open University (NOU).

Students with backgrounds other than education, such as BA, BSc, BBS, BBA, LLB, or equivalent, must complete a three-credit extra education course.

Entrance Examination

To get admitted to the MES program, students must first take and pass the Nepal Open University (NOU) entrance exam.


The admission exam consists of a written test meant to assess content and communicative abilities. It is mostly focused on the following specializations:

  • Education Governance and Leadership
  • Instructional Design and Technology
  • Nepali Education

Mode of Delivery

  • The MES course is delivered in two formats: open and distant (online/offline), and face-to-face.
  • According to the NOU Curriculum Framework and Implementation Guidelines 2018, 25% of the course will be given online, 60% offline, and 15% face-to-face.
