Multimedia and its application in grade 10

Introduction

Multimedia is a technology which stores data as text, photo, animation, music, video, etc. and gives the method to collect and modify the data as required. This note provides information about Multimedia and its components.  Multimedia is a computer delivered electronic system which allows the user to control, combine, and manipulate different types of media. The media used in multimedia technology are text, sound, graphics, animation etc.

Multimedia is a system, which has the capability to integrate two or more types of media such as text, graphics, animation, audio and video. It also has the capabilities of getting input, digitizing, compressing, decompressing, storing, retrieving the data and information and demonstrating them in an interactive manner.

Multimedia and Its Components

Multimedia is a technology which stores data as text, photo, animation, music, video, etc. and gives the method to collect and modify the data as required.

Multimedia System : It is a system which has capability to integrate two or more types of media such as text, graphics, audio, video and animation.

Multimedia Technology : Multimedia technology allows storing data and information for further reference. CD-ROM is a cheap, durable and portable storage media used to store data and information in the multimedia technology.

CD-ROM

CD-ROM is used to store data and information in the multimedia techonology. Its also called multimedia CD.CD-ROM is an acronym for Compact Disc-Read Only Memory and is a type of compact disc that has read-only data, meaning that once data has been recorded onto the disc, it can only be read or played and cannot be altered or erased. A CD-ROM is a type of optical disc and can be read by a computer with an optical drive, or CD-ROM drive, and a DVD/Blu Ray Drive. It’s used to store programs and files that require large amounts of data storage. A CD-ROM holds between 650-700 megabytes (MB) of data, meaning it has enough memory to store approximately 300,000 pages of text.

Virtual reality

Vitural reality techonology will enhace multimedia by supporting real time interactive , there dimensional graphics.Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer-generated environment with scenes and objects that appear to be real, making the user feel they are immersed in their surroundings. This environment is perceived through a device known as a Virtual Reality headset or helmet. VR allows us to immerse ourselves in video games as if we were one of the characters, learn how to perform heart surgery or improve the quality of sports training to maximise performance.

Advantages of multimedia

  • It can be used to help the student and teacher to teach as well as to learn the given topics easily.
  • It can be used to spread knowledge all over the world in a low cost.
  • It can be used for any subjects and for anyone.
  • Multimedia system are generally very interactive. So, it is interesting to use.

Disadvantages of Multimedia

  • It is expensive to produce multimedia system.
  • It is expensive to set up multimedia contents.
  • It needs well trained manpower to create and use it.

Components of Multimedia

The following are the different components used in multimedia system:

  • Text: It is the primary component of multimedia. Most of the information can be presented with the help of text. We can be emphasized the text by using different fonts, colors, styles etc.
  • Graphic: A digital representation of non-text information such as drawing, photographs etc are known as graphics. The graphic medium can be used with text medium.
  • Audio: Audio is one of the important components of multimedia. It is music, speech or any other sound. It is normally combined with animation medium.
  • Video: The effective medium for presenting information is video. It presents the moving images. It displayed the sequence of slightly varied pictures at the speed of 15-30 frames per second.
  • Animation: The animation medium presents the sequence of still images of artwork at a rapid speed that looks like the image is moving.
