Master of Science in Earthquake Engineering – IOE, Tribhuvan University

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Earthquake Engineering is offered by the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University, through two of its campuses: Pulchowk Campus and Thapathali Campus. Each year, both campuses jointly enroll a total of 20 students in this specialized postgraduate program.

Seat Distribution

The total intake of 20 seats is categorized as follows:

• Scholarship Quota: 5 seats

• Tribhuvan University Staff Quota: 1 seat

• Full Fee Quota: 6 seats

• Sponsored Quota: 8 seats

Note:

• One seat in the Regular category and one in the Full Fee category are reserved for female candidates.

• One seat is specifically reserved for IOE faculty members. Priority for this seat is given to permanent faculty; if unavailable, it is offered to contract faculty who have completed at least five years of service. If still vacant, this seat will be added to the Full Fee category.

• 25% of the Sponsored quota is reserved for foreign nationals.

• If sponsored or foreign seats remain unfilled, they will be reallocated to the Full Fee category.

Program Fees

• Regular Fee (Scholarship Quota): Approximately NPR 52,000

• Full Fee Quota: NPR 200,000

• Sponsored Quota: NPR 550,000

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the M.Sc. in Earthquake Engineering program, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a 4-year Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Forestry, or Science from a recognized institution.

• Have achieved above-average academic performance as per the standards set by the IOE Faculty Board.

• Obtain the minimum qualifying score in the entrance examination conducted by IOE's Entrance Exam Board (or as specified by a special entrance committee for international applicants).

• Degrees obtained from institutions outside Tribhuvan University must be recognized as equivalent by TU in the relevant discipline.

Admission Process

Interested candidates must fill out and submit an online application form before the deadline specified by the Entrance Examination Board. The application process involves the following steps:

1. Entrance Fee Deposit: Candidates must deposit the entrance examination fee into the account number provided in the official notice using a specially prepared bank voucher. The voucher number must be entered in the application form.

2. Entrance Stream Selection: Candidates must choose the appropriate entrance stream relevant to the M.Sc. in Earthquake Engineering program.

3. Form Completion: All fields in the application form must be filled in accurately without skipping any section.

4. Document Upload: Candidates must upload a recent passport-size color photograph (as per specified dimensions) and one valid identification document, such as:

   • Citizenship Certificate

   • Passport

   • Admit card from the most recent exam

Note: If any corrections are needed after submission (such as to name, photo, or identification document), the candidate must pay an additional fee at the ICTC office and submit a formal request along with the payment voucher.

Sponsored Quota Priority

The following order of preference applies to sponsored category seats:

1. First Priority: Employees of government ministries, government departments, and public sector organizations or corporations.

2. Second Priority: Employees of other institutions or organizations.

If no eligible applicants are found under the sponsored or foreign quota, the seats will be converted into Full Fee category seats.
