Program Overview

Master of Science in Energy System Planning and Management is a two-year (4-semester) postgraduate program offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Central Campus, Institute of Engineering (IOE), Tribhuvan University.

This program is tailored to equip students with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in energy systems planning, policy development, and project management. Evaluation System
The evaluation system is based on continuous internal assessments and final examinations. Students must secure at least 50% marks separately in both components to pass.
Final percentage and division are awarded based on the total weighted average as follows:

Percentage - Division
≥ 80% - Distinction
65 – < 80% - First Division
50 – < 65% - Second Division
≥ 50% - Pass

Courses are identified by a code (e.g., ME861) where:

  • The prefix (e.g., ME) denotes the offering department (Mechanical Engineering)

  • The first digit indicates the year of the program (8 = 1st year, 9 = 2nd year)

  • The second digit denotes the semester (1–50 for 1st & 3rd semesters; 51–100 for 2nd & 4th semesters)

Instructional Methods
Teaching includes lectures, seminars, group discussions, tutorials, lab work, and project-based learning. Innovative teaching techniques include case studies, teamwork, presentations, and independent research.
Each course is coordinated by a faculty member or subject expert.
Every student is assigned a counselor for guidance throughout the 2-year program.

Registration
Students must register for courses each semester. Completion of the program within 2 years is encouraged. Regular updates on progress and counseling are part of the academic process.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for admission to M.Sc. in Energy System Planning and Management, applicants must:

  1. Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (4 years) in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Civil, Computer, Agriculture, Industrial Engineering, or a Five-Year Architecture Degree.

  2. Have academic performance that meets or exceeds the minimum grade set by the IOE Faculty Board.

  3. Achieve the minimum required score in the entrance examination conducted by IOE.

Admission Process

  1. Fill out and submit the online application within the deadline.

  2. Deposit the application fee to the designated bank account and include the voucher number in the online form.

  3. Select the correct entrance stream and complete all required details accurately.

  4. Upload a recent passport-size color photo and one of the following IDs:

    • Citizenship certificate

    • Passport

    • Last exam admit card

  5. For form corrections, pay the correction fee and submit a request at ICTC.

  • 1 seat each in Regular and Full Fee categories is reserved for female candidates

  • Unclaimed reserved seats are added to the Full Fee category

  • 25% of sponsored seats are reserved for foreign students

  • Sponsored seat priority:

    • First: Government offices or government-owned organizations

    • Second: Other organizations

  • Unfilled sponsored or foreign seats convert to Full Fee category
