The MS in Clinical Anatomy is a postgraduate program that offers advanced training in human anatomy for clinical and teaching purposes. It is a full-time residential course governed by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) under Tribhuvan University.

Salient features

  • The program is fully residential and requires regular attendance.

  • Students must follow the academic and administrative regulations of IOM.

  • In clinical and para-clinical programs such as MD/MS, MDS, and MD Ayurveda, only two weeks of leave per year is allowed.

  • For other postgraduate programs, leave will be granted according to Tribhuvan University rules.

  • Private practice or any kind of external professional work is strictly prohibited during the course.

  • A three-month community-based teaching-learning component is mandatory, as required by the Nepal Medical Council.

  • As per the Ministry of Health and Population, all Nepali candidates must complete one year of compulsory government service after graduation.

Eligibility criteria

  • Must have completed MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized institution.

  • Must be registered with the Nepal Medical Council.

  • Foreign applicants must be registered with their own country's medical council.

  • One year of work experience is required, except for candidates applying in basic medical sciences.

  • Must score at least 50 percent in the entrance exam conducted by the Medical Education Commission to be listed in the merit ranking.

Entrance exam format

  • Question type: Multiple Choice Questions (single best answer)

  • Options per question: A, B, C, D

  • Total number of questions: 200

  • Duration: 3 hours (includes one voluntary toilet break after 1 hour)

  • Question distribution:
    Recall – 30 percent
    Understanding – 50 percent
    Application – 20 percent

Admission criteria

  • All candidates, whether Nepali or international, must sit for the common entrance examination.

  • Separate merit lists will be published for Nepali and foreign applicants.

  • A minimum of 50 percent marks in the entrance exam is required to pass.

  • Admission is based strictly on merit and is finalized through open house counseling, if applicable.
