Master of Education in Information and Communication Technology Education (M.Ed. in ICTEd)

Program Type: Semester-based, Full-time
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants interested in this program must meet one of the following qualifications:
Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with specialization in Information and Communication Technology Education (ICTEd), or
B.Ed. in Mathematics with a bridge course in ICTEd (conducted by the Faculty of Education, Tribhuvan University), or
Master of Education degree holders who have successfully completed a 10-month training program in ICTEd.
Key Features of the Program
1. Teaching Methods
The M.Ed. ICTEd program uses a blend of instructional approaches to enhance learning outcomes. These include:
Lectures and demonstrations
Group discussions and seminars
Guest lectures
Term paper presentations and case analysis
Practical experiences and field work
These diverse methods are designed to help students develop skills in self-learning, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
2. Academic Calendar and Instruction Days
An academic year typically includes 150 teaching days, excluding time spent on admissions and exams. Instructional expectations are as follows:
A 100-mark theory paper includes 150 lectures (5 classes per week)
A 50-mark paper requires 75 lectures (3 classes per week)
Practical courses may require additional hours
For semester-based learning: 48 hours of instruction = 3 credit hours
3. Practicum
The practicum is a vital component of the M.Ed. program, giving students the opportunity to engage in real-world academic or professional settings. Each student must complete three key activities:
Classroom teaching
Internship
Curriculum evaluation (in their area of specialization)
Note: Students specializing in educational planning and management will have alternative practicum activities. The practicum is conducted after or during the second year and spans six weeks.
4. Thesis Writing and Evaluation
Writing a thesis in a chosen area of specialization is mandatory. Conditions include:
Students must have passed all first-year courses before beginning their thesis
The thesis is written under the guidance of a faculty supervisor
Proposal formatting and approval are handled by the Department Research Committee
Evaluation is based on both the written thesis and an oral defense (viva voce)
Thesis quality is monitored by departmental research and evaluation committees.
Attendance and Evaluation
Attendance Requirements:
Yearly System: Minimum of 70% attendance per subject
Semester System: Minimum of 80% attendance required to sit for final exams
Examination:
Annual exams are conducted by the Office of the Controller of Examinations, T.U.
Semester exams are administered by the Dean’s Office Examination Section
Students must pass all exams to graduate
Passing Criteria:
Yearly System: 40% in theory courses
Semester System: 50% in both theory and practical components
Graduation Requirements
To graduate with an M.Ed. degree, students must:
Successfully complete all 1,000 marks of coursework (in yearly system) or
Complete 69 credit hours (in semester system) including both professional and elective subjects
Fulfill all program requirements within the time frame set by Tribhuvan University’s Faculty Board and Academic Council
