Lumbini Banijya Campus, Butwal has introduced the Master of Business Administration in Banking and Finance (MBA-BF) program, the first of its kind in Nepal. This is a full-time, intensive two-year program divided into four semesters, incorporating seminars, practicums, experiential learning, and a research project.

The MBA-BF is a prestigious and rewarding program offered autonomously by Lumbini Banijya Campus in collaboration with the Faculty of Management, Tribhuvan University. Over two years and four semesters, it blends theoretical knowledge with practical experience, equipping students with analytical and technical skills essential for managing modern business organizations effectively.

Objectives

The primary goal of the MBA-BF program is to develop versatile, skilled, dynamic, and intelligent graduates who are well-prepared for both local and global markets. Graduates will be capable of working in various financial sectors, including banking, finance companies, microfinance institutions, cooperatives, insurance companies, and other financial services.

Upon completion, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate competence in key business areas such as accounting, finance, marketing, and management.

  • Improve verbal and written communication skills.

  • Collaborate professionally and effectively in team environments.

  • Understand the complexities of the rapidly changing global business environment.

  • Acquire detailed knowledge of banking and financial institution operations.

  • Apply decision-making techniques using both qualitative and quantitative analyses.

  • Analyze and evaluate ethical issues at all levels of business decisions.

  • Assess and manage risks associated with business organizations.

  • Conduct strategic analysis through both theoretical and practical approaches.

Program Features

  • Duration: The MBA-BF spans four semesters over two academic years, with a maximum completion time of five years.

  • Medium of Instruction: All courses and examinations are conducted in English.

  • Attendance: Students must attend at least 80% of classes in each subject to qualify for semester-end examinations. Attendance records are displayed monthly. Continuous absence exceeding seven days without prior permission results in ineligibility for exams in the concerned subject.

Examination Scheme

Each course consists of two parts: Internal Assessment (50%) and Semester-End Examination (50%), totaling 100 marks.

  • Examination Duration:

    • 3-credit courses: 4 hours

    • 2-credit courses: 3 hours

    • 1-credit courses: 2 hours

Semester-end exams are evaluated by two external examiners, with the final score being the average of their assessments.

Evaluation System

Internal Assessment may include:

  • Case study analysis and discussions

Semester-End Examination accounts for 50% of the total marks.

Internship Program

Students must complete an internship lasting between 8 to 12 weeks to gain practical experience. They are required to submit an internship report in a prescribed format. Evaluation is based on the host organization’s confidential report (40%) and the seminar presentation of the report (60%).

Dissertation

As part of the program, students undertake a research project and prepare an integrative report. They must present their findings in a seminar and pass a viva voce examination. The dissertation and viva each carry 50% weight in the final evaluation. An external examiner is appointed for the dissertation evaluation.

Course Structure and Credits

Each semester includes at least sixteen weeks of teaching before exams begin. One lecture hour per week equals one credit. For example, a 2-credit course includes 32 class hours.

The program requires a total of 60 credits:

  • 30 credits in foundational and core business courses

  • 18 credits in finance and investment courses

  • 6 credits in elective courses

  • 6 credits for internship and dissertation projects

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree (under 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 system) in any discipline from a recognized university in Nepal or abroad, with a minimum aggregate of 50% including language subjects.

Candidates with degrees obtained via correspondence or open university systems are also eligible, subject to passing the Lumbini Banijya Campus Management Admission Test (LBC-MAT) or equivalent entrance exam. The test pattern is similar to the School of Management (SOM), Tribhuvan University.
