Program Overview

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Climate Change and Development at Tribhuvan University is a specialized postgraduate program that explores the complex relationship between climate change and development through a social science perspective. The program pays particular attention to ecological economics and the broader social, environmental, and policy challenges associated with global climate change.

Students will critically examine both the drivers and consequences of climate change, while learning how to develop sustainable and practical solutions for real-world environmental and development problems. Graduates of this program are equipped for careers in environmental planning, climate policy, development agencies, research institutions, and NGOs working in the area of climate resilience and sustainability.

This two-year program is conducted at the Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk Campus, with 20 students admitted each year.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the M.Sc. in Climate Change and Development, candidates must:

  • Hold a four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Agriculture, Forestry, or Science.

  • Have above-average academic performance in undergraduate studies (as per the IOE Faculty Board's guidelines).

  • Secure the minimum required score in the entrance examination conducted by IOE’s Entrance Exam Board (or as recommended for foreign students by a special committee).

  • For degrees obtained outside Tribhuvan University, equivalency must be certified by TU.

Admission Process

  1. Online Application: Candidates must fill and submit an online application form within the deadline provided by the Entrance Examination Board.

  2. Application Fee: Applicants must deposit the required application fee in the specified bank account using a special voucher that includes their name and date of birth. The voucher number must be mentioned in the online form.

  3. Form Completion: All required fields in the application form must be completed accurately, including the selection of the correct entrance stream.

  4. Document Upload: Applicants must upload a recent color photograph and one valid identification document, such as:

    • Citizenship certificate

    • Passport

    • Admit card of the last examination

  5. Editing Submitted Form: Changes to submitted application forms (such as name, photo, or ID) may be allowed for a fee. Requests must be submitted at ICTC with payment proof.

Additional Provisions:

  • One seat each in the regular and full fee categories is reserved for female candidates.

  • One seat is reserved for IOE faculty. Priority is given to permanent faculty members, followed by those with over five years of contract service. If unfilled, this seat shifts to the full fee category.

  • 25% of the sponsored quota is reserved for foreign students.

Sponsored Quota Prioritization:

  1. First Priority: Applicants from government offices or government-owned organizations.

  2. Second Priority: Applicants from other recognized organizations.
