Master of Science in Chemistry – Tribhuvan University

The Master of Science in Chemistry (M.Sc. Chemistry) is a two-year (four-semester) postgraduate program offered by the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University (TU). It is designed to provide students with an advanced and internationally comparable education in chemistry, focusing on theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research experience.

Eligibility

Students who have completed a B.Sc. degree with Chemistry as a major subject from Tribhuvan University or any other recognized university are eligible to apply.

Admission Process

Admission is based on a competitive entrance examination conducted by the Central Department of Chemistry under TU. A merit list is prepared, and students are admitted according to available seats and exam performance.

Program Structure

  • Duration: 2 years (4 semesters)

  • Total Credit Hours: 70

  • Mode: Semester system

  • Each semester includes theory, practicals, seminar/term paper, and optional thesis

  • Students can specialize in Organic, Inorganic, or Physical Chemistry from the 3rd semester

Attendance and Evaluation

  • Minimum 80% attendance is required

  • 60% of the final grade is based on external exams, and 40% from internal assessments (class tests, presentations, attendance, etc.)
