Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSOED) offers high quality teacher education programs with a holistic approach for developing competent teachers, teacher educators, and educational leaders who can contribute towards meaningful and life-affirming pedagogical processes. A shift in educational processes is needed to develop skilled and visionary educational professionals.

School counseling brings about systemic change in the existing educational model of teaching and learning. The change ensues by infusing school counseling programs through the whole lifeline of the entire school educational milieu. The program shifts current position-based and clinically oriented mode of school counseling, where a counselor intervenes the needy students who come to the consultation, to a program-based mode in which the counselor designs, develops and delivers school counseling program for all the stakeholders, including parents, teachers and the entire school personnel.

Program Objectives

This program aims to equip graduates with the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to provide effective academic, career, and social-emotional counseling in educational settings. It prepares professionals to design and implement school counseling programs that foster students' overall development and well-being.

Upon completion, graduates will be able to:

  • Develop, deliver, and lead comprehensive school counseling programs.

  • Serve as advocates and change agents for promoting counseling in schools.

  • Support students in improving academic performance and achieving educational goals.

  • Guide students in making informed career choices aligned with their interests and abilities.

Eligibility Requirement

The candidates having a Master's degree in any discipline from a university or an institution recognized by Kathmandu University are eligible to apply in the One Year M Ed in School Counseling program.

Evaluation

The course facilitator assigned with the course will be fully responsible for the evaluation. The in semester; CAS comprises 50% weightage and end semester Paper Based Test (PBT) carries the rest 50%. Students will be graded as per the letter grade system in practice at KU.

Structure of the program

The program consists of two semesters having 27 credit hours(cr.), that is core courses (6cr.), professional courses (12cr.), Elective Courses (3cr.) and Practical Courses (6cr.). Apart from these courses, non-credit workshops shall be offered. The weightage of the workshop shall be of 30 hours per semester.
