Key Features of the Program
Instructional Methods
The teaching and learning methods used in the M.Ed. program involve a mix of approaches to create an engaging academic experience. These include:
Class lectures and discussions
Group work and collaborative projects
Demonstrations and guest lectures
Seminars and presentations
Case analysis and fieldwork
Term paper writing and practical activities
These techniques are aimed at encouraging students to think critically, work independently, and solve real-life educational problems.
Academic Calendar and Class Hours

A 100-mark theory course includes around 1650 minutes of instruction, typically spread over five weekly periods. A 50-mark course includes about 75 lecture sessions (three periods per week). For semester-based courses, a 3-credit hour subject involves 48 classroom hours, with each credit hour equaling 16 lecture hours.
Practicum
Practicum is an essential component of the M.Ed. program. It provides students with hands-on experience through direct involvement in classroom teaching, internships, and curriculum evaluation. For students in Educational Planning and Management, equivalent professional activities are offered in place of classroom teaching. The practicum is conducted during or after the second academic year and lasts for six weeks.
Thesis Writing
Writing a thesis in the selected specialization area is mandatory. Only students who have successfully completed all first-year courses are allowed to begin thesis work. The thesis is developed under the guidance of a faculty advisor, following a set format approved by the Department Research Committee. Final thesis evaluation includes a written component and an oral defense (viva voce), and quality control is overseen by departmental research committees.
Attendance and Evaluation
Minimum attendance of 70% (annual system) or 80% (semester system) is required to be eligible for final exams.
Final examinations for the annual system are conducted by the Office of the Controller of Examinations, Tribhuvan University.
Semester exams are conducted by the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Education.
