Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Economics Education – Tribhuvan University

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Economics Education is one of the many postgraduate programs offered by the Faculty of Education, Tribhuvan University. This program is designed to prepare education professionals with expertise in economics education and aims to address the country's need for skilled educators, planners, and educational leaders.

Program Objectives

The general objective of the M.Ed. program is to produce well-qualified academic professionals such as teachers, teacher educators, education planners and administrators, education system analysts, and experts in the field of education. Specific objectives include:

  • Producing competent and qualified teacher educators.

  • Preparing effective educational planners, administrators, supervisors, and other education specialists.

  • Encouraging innovation and best practices in the field of education.

  • Developing educational leaders capable of transforming the education system in Nepal.

Salient Features

Method of Instruction

The M.Ed. program uses a mix of instructional methods including lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, guest lectures, seminars, case studies, problem-solving sessions, term paper presentations, fieldwork, and practical experiences. These methods are intended to promote self-learning, critical thinking, and practical problem-solving skills among students.

Academic Calendar and Class Hours

Each academic year consists of 150 instructional days, excluding days allocated for admissions and exams. A theory course worth 100 marks typically includes 1650 minutes of lecture time (about 5 periods a week), while a 50-mark paper includes 75 lectures (around 3 periods a week). Practical courses require more contact hours. In the semester system, each 3-credit hour course consists of 48 hours of class time.

Practicum

Practicum is a vital part of the M.Ed. program. It includes three main activities: classroom teaching, internship, and curriculum evaluation within the student’s area of specialization. For students in Educational Planning and Management, equivalent practical tasks replace classroom teaching. The practicum is usually completed during or after the second year and lasts for six weeks.

Thesis Writing

Writing a thesis is compulsory in the student’s area of specialization. Only students who have passed all first-year courses are eligible to begin thesis work. The thesis must be written under faculty supervision and approved by the Department Research Committee. Evaluation is based on both the written thesis and a viva voce (oral defense). The quality of thesis work is monitored by research committees at the departmental level.

Attendance and Evaluation System

Students must meet a minimum attendance requirement of 70% in each subject (80% in the semester system) to be eligible for final exams.

Annual exams are conducted by the Office of the Controller of Examinations, Tribhuvan University. Semester exams are conducted by the Dean's Office. Students must pass all exams to graduate.

Minimum pass marks:

  • Annual system: 40% in theory papers.

  • Semester system: 50% in both theory and practical components.

Graduation Requirements

To be eligible for graduation with an M.Ed. degree, students must:
