Central Department of Statistics, Tribhuvan University is the sole department in Nepal that offers and produces Master’s Degree holders in Statistics as well as PhD in Statistics. The department was established in 1972 with its first Head of the Department, Prof. B. N. Nagnur of Karnatak University, India. In its early developing phase, the Indian Co-operation Mission supported M.Sc. Statistics program with distinguished Professors Dr. P. C. Sharma and Dr. A. V. Kharshikar.

In due course of time, TU constructed the Statistics Instruction Committee which later transformed into the Central Department of Statistics. Over the past four decades, it has produced thousands of Master’s Degree holders and fourteen PhD holders in Statistics, the majority of them working under different organizations and capacities and making substantial contributions to academic, government, and nongovernment institutions and the development process of Nepal.

• M. Sc. / M.A. Statistics

  Master of Science (M.Sc) in Statistics course is offered at Tribhuvan University Central Department of Statistics. It is a two-year, 4-semester program and a postgraduate degree emphasizing collecting and interpreting statistics. 

• Ph.D. Statistics
  The doctoral (Ph.D.) program of Tribhuvan University Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) is intended for those who wish to develop a career in teaching, research, and advanced knowledge in the field of Science and Technology.
